RESOURCES & REPORTS

A HEALTH LITERATE MESSAGE TOOLKIT TO PREVENT VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

This toolkit was developed from the collective efforts of a number of organisations in the G21 region which form the PVAW (Prevention of Violence Against Women) Health Alliance.

Organisations include Barwon Health, Bellarine Community Health, Colac Area Health, and Women’s Health and Wellbeing Barwon South West with additional support from the Primary Care Partnership (G21 Health & Wellbeing Pillar).

Clear, accessible and effective communication is vital in the prevention of violence against women (PVAW). It is a cornerstone of the widespread cultural and systemic change needed for PVAW, and has the potential to influence beliefs, attitudes and norms.

As the drivers and effects of violence against women are complex and can be challenging to convey, this toolkit has been developed to address this challenge by providing simple and consistent messages.

A health literacy approach was taken to support audiences to access, understand and apply information. This ensures the capacity of communications to aid the prevention of violence against women is maximized.

If you would like to contact the authors, please direct your query to G21 Health and Wellbeing Pillar at hwb@G21.com.au.

NEEDING YOUR INPUT

HISA developing capability roadmap for digital nursing and midwifery workforce

The Health Informatics Society of Australia (HISA) has released a draft digital health capability framework for nurses and midwives to support them in emerging digital workplaces.

The draft framework is open for consultation, with HISA expecting to finalise the framework in June with a view to releasing it officially at the International Nursing Informatics Congress in Brisbane in August.

The project is being sponsored by the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) with an advisory committee consisting of the colleges of nursing and midwifery, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF), the practice nurses' association and a number of other nursing and midwifery organisations.

HISA is currently running an online survey as part of the public consultation on the draft framework to gauge from nurses and midwives what they think are the specific digital health skills they need, what is practical and relevant for them as nurses and midwives and how the framework can be used in hospitals and health services.

HISA CEO Louise Schaper said nurses and midwives were at the forefront of the emerging field of digital health.

“In this new program, nursing and midwifery organisations will be collaborating to create the first national framework to support nurses and midwives in an increasingly digital workplace, with all the challenges and opportunities that provides,” Dr Schaper said.

“Our goal is to raise awareness among nurses and midwives of the value of digital health skills, the opportunities in the area, and the knowledge to improve quality of patient care.”

The survey and the draft framework are available here.
