Secure messaging standards to be mandatory

State, Territory and Commonwealth Governments have released a joint statement in support of new standards for secure messaging, stating that the standards will be mandatory in future procurement for applicable systems.

The Australian Digital Health Agency has been working with industry and governments over a number of years to achieve interoperable secure messaging across different systems – necessary to accelerate use of electronic messaging over fax machines and paper transmission.

The approach to national scaling has been launched for a consistent, standards-based approach to secure messaging across Australia, to enable healthcare providers to communicate effectively as part of the National Digital Health Strategy 2018-22. ADHA Media Release

Host a kitchen table discussion and invite your community to talk about the future of primary health care!

Submit your Expression of Interest now!

The Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF), in collaboration with Health Consumers Queensland (HCQ) is offering consumers and carers from across Australia the opportunity to facilitate a consultation with their local community on primary health care, and how we can deliver health care in the community that is accessible, convenient and keeps people well.

Primary health care is usually the first contact a person has with the health system and relates to health care received outside of a hospital setting. Primary care providers include your local general practitioner (GP), community nurses, nurse practitioners, allied health professionals, pharmacists, dentists and Aboriginal health workers.

CHF is contributing to the development of the Australian Government’s Primary Health Care 10 Year Plan, and we want to ensure consumer views are central to that plan. They have commissioned HCQ to run a series of 12 Kitchen Table Discussions across the country to hear from consumers about what matters to them when it comes to primary health care.

WHO CAN BE A CONSUMER OR CARER HOST?

HCQ is looking for 12 people to host the Kitchen Table Discussions from across all states and territories. They would like the hosts to have personal experience with, or an interest in, primary health care. They are also interested in representing the views of a range of consumers who may not typically have a say in healthcare. To achieve this, they are particularly looking for hosts who are consumers and/or carers and can demonstrate they have strong links with their communities.

Please complete this application form and return it to consumer@hcq .org.au by 4pm on
7 February 2020.

NDIS Data and Insights

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) has released some new data and insights.

There is a large amount of diverse data, that provides snapshots, some deep detail and an ability to drill down on specific details.  It gives a picture of the needs, successes and challenges for Australians who live with a disability, those who support them, and those who work within the sector more information

Working With Stolen Generations

These resources were developed to support GPs, dentists and aged care workers in providing support to Stolen Generations survivors.

Many Stolen Generations survivors experienced childhood trauma as a result of their forced removal from family, community, culture and language, and sometimes also as a result of abuse and racism. Interacting with aged care staff, GPs, dentists and other services is often difficult for survivors, as everyday events can trigger the original trauma, particularly if a situation brings back the lack of control Stolen Generations survivors experienced when they were taken from their families.

These factsheets were developed by The Healing Foundation in collaboration with Stolen Generations survivors, Community Services Australia and the Aged Care Industry Association.  They provide practical tips, tailored for each profession, for how staff and management can improve services to Stolen Generations survivors and are designed to create greater awareness about the best ways to provide services to the Stolen Generations without triggering trauma.

Fact sheets for hospitals, allied health professionals and disability services will be available in early 2020 link

Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria resources

The DVRCV has created innovative and award-winning resources for those affected by violence. These include:

Arc app - With technology playing an increasingly integral role in today’s relationships and social interactions, the use of technology such as smartphones, tablets and social media platforms to perpetrate family violence is also on the rise. The Arc app enables women experiencing family violence to track details of abusive behaviour by uploading photos, videos, audio and diary entries to create a record of what has happened, when it happened, and how it made them feel.

What's Okay at Home? - based on focus groups and surveys with young people in Victorian secondary schools, DVRCV created a website for young people living with violence and abuse at home. This site is a redesign of the site 'Bursting the Bubble' - a winner of the 2005 Australian Crime & Violence Prevention Award, and the site’s evaluation won the Australasian Evaluation Society Award in 2005
